The Holy Bible – God’s Word

There are many attacks today on the integrity, accuracy and authority of the Holy Bible as God’s Word. This is not a new phenomenon: throughout history we find those who sought to undermine the truth of God’s Word to justify unholy and godless lifestyles. It all began with the devil in the garden of Eden in Genesis 3:1 saying to Eve, “Has God indeed said…” and he uses the same tactic today.

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work

As believers we need to value the Word of God as the primary authority on what we believe and how we live our lives. The devil knows that a man or woman who applies their faith to the promises of the Word of God is a powerful force and he will do anything to try prevent this happening.

When the Word of God says one thing, but our negative experiences suggest another, we need to have it clear in our hearts that we will believe the Word of God. We can’t afford to be double minded in this!

James 1:5-8
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

We need to be convinced in our heart of hearts that first, God is 100% good; second, God does not change; third, God does not lie; and fourth, God is faithful even when we are not!

1st. James 1:17, Psalm 119:68
2nd. Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8, Isaiah 40:8
3rd. Numbers 23:19, Hebrews 6:18
4th. 2 Timothy 2:13, Psalm 119:90

Jesus is the Word of God: you can’t separate Jesus and the Word, they are one. You can’t both love Jesus and disdain the Word. Some people say they don’t need to read the Bible, they just love Jesus and listen to the Holy Spirit. This is how the devil will take them out! God does not suffer from a split personality: everything the Holy Spirit tells you will line up with the Bible, God’s Word. Without this truth check, you are exposing yourself to the risk of hearing lying spirits and not the Holy Spirit. The devil has being deceiving mankind for thousands of years; the written Word of God is your defense against these lies.

John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Proverbs 4:20-22
My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

We need to not only have the information of the Word of God, we need to apply it in our lives. We need to be doers of the Word, not only listeners.

James 1:22-24
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.

We often talk about the great men of God; the apostles of the New Testament and more modern examples like John G. Lake and Smith Wigglesworth. The common thread in all their lives is that they placed the Word of God and His promises above all else. They placed the Word of God above the voice of the world and the voice of their past experiences (whether good or bad). Then they acted on the Word of God; they were doers, not just hearers of the Word.

Let’s take these truths to heart and act on our convictions. Let’s read and meditate on God’s Word and apply it in our lives. Let’s expect that as we do this we will see the results, because God’s Word does not return void.

Isaiah 55:11
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
