I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
God has placed His Word above His name. This is a huge statement, it means that God has chosen to limit Himself and His actions in accordance with His Word! So many people say things like “you never know what God’s going to do” or “God is sovereign and He can do whatever He wants”. If these statements are true, then we are just leaves in the wind, hoping that when we approach God, He will be in a good mood and do something good for us. No! This is not how God is, He has given us His Word and He has given us the assurance that He will always act according to it.
God’s name is יהוה in Hebrew, which is translated into English as either YAHWEH or JEHOVAH. The meaning of YAHWEH/JEHOVAH is “I AM WHO I AM”. By placing His Word above His name, God is saying, I will place my Word above my very existence and I will cease to exist before I break my Word!
My covenant I will not break, Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
It’s wonderful to know that we can know God through His Word. We are not just hoping and wishing as we approach God, we can know that He is consistent and that He will always deal with us according to His Word. For God to act in any way other than according to His Word is for Him to deny Himself!
As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.
Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.
Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
Praise God, He is knowable, He is consistent with His Word at all times!
