Hope, an anchor for the soul

Hebrews 6:17-19
Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil

An anchor keeps a ship from going adrift, especially in stormy seas. Our hope (joyful, expectation) in the truth of God’s Word and the fact that He can’t lie, will keep us from drifting away and being wrecked by life’s storms.

If our hopes are in material things or in life going well, where will we be if things take a turn for the worst? Our hope should be in Jesus, who gave His life for us so that we could have the assurance of eternal life. If our hope is in Jesus, the giver of life, then no matter what is taken away from us by the devil or this broken world, we know we can overcome, because He is the restorer of our souls and the redeemer of all that is lost.

Psalm 121
I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.

Look to God and don’t let the enemy steal your hope. Evil things come against us for one reason and that is to steal our hope and faith in God’s Word and promises. Don’t let the devil’s plan work against you, be steadfast in believing God and trusting in Him.

Remember David, who was unjustly hated and hunted by King Saul. David at his lowest points, when all seemed lost, was able to look to God and anchor his soul in Him.

Psalm 43:5
Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.

Psalm 62:5-8
My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.

Remember God is on your side! He will never leave you nor forsake you. Anchor your hope and trust in Him and He will always empower you to be an overcomer.

Romans 8:31-32
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?
