Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
For many people, the idea that God would give them the desires of their heart seems almost sacrilegious. They think, how could God get anything good out of my heart? They see themselves as unworthy of this level of trust and they are focused on their own shortcomings.
Without being born-again, they would be right in their assessment! Without Jesus, men are by nature sinners and fall short of God’s glory, but with Jesus, by accepting Him as our Lord and Savior, we are made new. We are no longer sinners by nature but saints (people saved by the grace of God). Our old self with the sin nature dies and the new self, born-again with Jesus is a new creature without sin. We are made righteous through Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:21
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
This new man as he delights himself in God, as he commits his way to God and trusts Him, is transformed into the likeness of Jesus. Through the assistance of the Holy Spirit, we become more Christlike every day. As we read the Word of God and renew our minds by replacing the lies of the world with the truths of God, we become a people that have His desires in our hearts.
But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
Many Christians know that God has a purpose for them on the earth but they are paralysed because they don’t know what it is. Praise God you can be free in this area; follow the advice of Psalm 37:4-5, delight yourself in God, commit your way to Him and trust Him. Then look into your heart and ask the question, what is it I want to do?
This is not difficult, just start doing what’s in your heart!
Don’t worry about making mistakes, God is more than able to adjust your path as you go – Proverbs 16:9 – A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.
